This course delivers both theoretical knowledge and practical training in the safe and effective use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Delegates will gain the confidence and competence required to operate SCBA equipment in demanding environments, with a strong emphasis on safety, technique, and real-world application.

This two-day BAWRA course combines continuous observation with a final summative assessment, conducted by IFTC’s certified Breathing Apparatus Trainers (BAT) and Compartment Fire Behaviour Training Team (CFBTT). Delegates’ competence is rigorously evaluated against a structured assessment checklist. Upon successful demonstration of all required skills, participants will be awarded a certificate of achievement, validating their operational readiness.

At the International Fire Training Centre, we deliver rigorous training and assessment programmes designed to meet the highest professional standards. Please note that some of our courses require delegates to possess a significant level of prior knowledge in order to successfully meet the programme demands and complete all assessments.
Our curriculum also includes Instructional Techniques for Breathing Apparatus (BA) — a specialist course aimed at equipping competent BA wearers with the knowledge and instructional skills necessary to train others in the safe and effective use of BA equipment. The course ensures that all training and operations are conducted in line with internationally recognised safety standards.

Led by an accredited industry specialist, this intensive three-day course for experienced Breathing Apparatus Instructors is designed to help delegates effectively mitigate risk and maintain regulatory compliance through expert-led instruction and practical application.

This course provides delegates with essential theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical skills in the use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). It ensures full awareness of core safety procedures and operational guidance for effective SCBA use.
Upon successful completion of the assessment, delegates will receive two-year revalidation certificates for Breathing Apparatus Instructor (BAI) and Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT), meeting the standards outlined in NOG14 and Volume 4 of the Fire Service Manual.
